Almond Horchata Ingredients
- 1 cup raw almonds (soaked overnight)
- 4 cups cold filtered water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Ground cinnamon (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Soak Almonds and Cinnamon Stick: Combine raw almonds and the cinnamon stick with 2 cups of water, soaking them overnight or for at least 6 hours to soften the almonds and infuse the cinnamon flavor.
- Remove Cinnamon Stick and Blend: Discard the cinnamon stick, then transfer the soaked almonds along with the soaking water to a blender.
- Add Remaining Water and Blend: Pour in the remaining 2 cups of cold filtered water and blend on high speed until the mixture becomes smooth and milky.
- Strain the Mixture: Pour the blended mixture through a nut milk bag or a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove almond pulp, achieving a smooth horchata texture.
- Add Sweeteners and Flavorings: Stir in the sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Chill: Refrigerate the almond horchata for at least 1 hour to chill and allow flavors to meld.
- Serve: Serve the horchata over ice and garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, if desired, for an extra touch of warmth.
