Scale
Buttercream Frosting
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 ounces heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Cream the Butter and Salt: In a large bowl or stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat 1 cup of unsalted butter and ½ teaspoon salt on low speed until the mixture turns pale and creamy.
- Add Powdered Sugar and Heavy Cream: Gradually add 4 cups powdered sugar and 2 ounces heavy cream alternately while mixing on low speed over about 3 minutes. Adjust the consistency by adding an additional ½ cup powdered sugar or 1 tablespoon heavy cream if needed.
- Incorporate Vanilla and Whip: Add 1 tablespoon vanilla extract and increase the mixer speed to high. Whip the frosting for 2 to 3 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl every minute to ensure a light and fluffy texture.
- Store or Use: Use the frosting immediately to decorate your baked goods or store it in an airtight container until ready for use.
Notes
- For a stiffer frosting, add more powdered sugar gradually.
- If the frosting is too thick, add a little more heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time.
- Ensure butter is softened to room temperature for easy creaming and smooth texture.
- This frosting is best served at room temperature.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator, then re-whip before using if needed.
