Butter Pecan Syrup Ingredients
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Toast the pecans: Heat a dry skillet over medium heat and add the chopped pecans. Toast them, stirring frequently, until they become fragrant and slightly darker in color, about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
- Melt the butter and dissolve sugar: In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the packed brown sugar until it dissolves completely into the butter, creating a smooth mixture.
- Add syrup and cream: Pour in the pure maple syrup and heavy cream, stirring continuously to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Add pecans, vanilla, and salt: Stir in the toasted pecans, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to incorporate all flavors.
- Simmer to thicken: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer uncovered for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the syrup thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon.
- Cool and serve: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the syrup cool slightly before serving. The syrup will thicken more as it cools. Store any leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Use unsalted butter to control the saltiness in the syrup.
- Make sure to toast the pecans to bring out their full flavor and crunch.
- The syrup will thicken further once cooled, so do not overcook to a very thick consistency on the stove.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator and gently reheat before serving.
- This syrup pairs exceptionally well with pancakes, waffles, French toast, ice cream, and desserts.
