Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Sauce
- 4 garlic cloves, freshly minced
- 1/2 cup chicken broth (preferably less sodium)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (Kikkoman recommended)
- 4 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1.5 tbsp ginger, minced or grated
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp neutral oil (such as vegetable or canola oil)
- 1 lb chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch bite-sized pieces
Vegetables
- 2 heads broccoli, cut into small even florets
To Serve
- White rice, cooked
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce mixture. In a bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, soy sauce, honey, cornstarch, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes until the cornstarch is fully dissolved and the sauce is well combined.
- Heat the pan and cook chicken. Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bite-sized chicken thigh pieces and cook for about 5-6 minutes until they start to brown and are cooked through. Remove the chicken and set aside.
- Sauté garlic and broccoli. In the same skillet, add the freshly minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they turn bright green and slightly tender but still crisp.
- Combine chicken and sauce. Return the chicken to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture, stirring continuously as the sauce thickens and coats the chicken and broccoli with a glossy finish, about 2-3 minutes.
- Serve. Remove from heat and serve immediately over cooked white rice. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired for additional texture and flavor.
Notes
- For best flavor, use freshly minced garlic and grated ginger.
- Ensure cornstarch is fully dissolved in the sauce to avoid lumps.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level—omit for milder taste.
- Use chicken thighs for juicier, more flavorful meat compared to chicken breasts.
- Broccoli can be substituted with other vegetables like snap peas or bell peppers for variation.
