- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Cucumber Yogurt Sauce:
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup cucumber, finely grated and squeezed dry
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt, to taste
For Assembly:
- 4 large flatbreads or wraps
- Sliced tomatoes
- Shredded lettuce
- Sliced red onion
- Crumbled feta cheese
Instructions
- Sauté Onion: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until soft, about 3–4 minutes.
- Add Garlic: Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Cook Beef and Season: Add ground beef along with dried oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Break up the meat as it cooks to ensure even browning.
- Brown Beef: Continue cooking until the beef is browned and fully cooked, then remove from heat.
- Make Sauce: In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic, and salt; mix until smooth.
- Chill Sauce: Place the cucumber yogurt sauce in the refrigerator until ready to use, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Warm Flatbreads: Warm the flatbreads or wraps according to package instructions to make them pliable for rolling.
- Assemble Wraps: Lay the warmed flatbread flat, add a portion of the cooked beef to the center, top with cucumber yogurt sauce and your choice of sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sliced red onion, and crumbled feta cheese.
- Serve: Roll up the wraps tightly and serve immediately while warm and fresh.
Notes
- To squeeze dry the cucumber, use a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth to remove excess moisture, preventing a watery sauce.
- You can substitute ground lamb for beef for a more authentic Greek flavor.
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef while cooking.
- These wraps can also be served with a side of lemon wedges and extra feta for garnish.
- Flatbreads can be lightly toasted in a dry skillet for extra texture before assembling.
