Description

Hula Pie is a luscious Hawaiian-inspired ice cream dessert featuring a crunchy chocolate cookie crust, creamy macadamia nut ice cream filling, and a rich topping of whipped cream, hot fudge sauce, and chopped macadamia nuts. This no-bake frozen pie is perfect for summer or special occasions and is both indulgent and easy to prepare ahead of time.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs (like Oreos, finely crushed)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Filling

  • 1 quart macadamia nut ice cream, softened slightly

Topping

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup hot fudge sauce (plus more for drizzling)
  • 1/4 cup chopped macadamia nuts

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust. In a medium bowl, combine chocolate cookie crumbs with melted butter until the mixture is evenly moistened. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie pan or springform pan, creating an even crust layer. Place the crust in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes until it becomes firm and set.
  2. Add the filling. Spread the slightly softened macadamia nut ice cream evenly over the chilled crust. Mound it slightly in the center to create a dome shape. Return the pie to the freezer and allow it to freeze until very firm, at least 4 hours or preferably overnight for best texture.
  3. Make the whipped cream topping. Just before serving, whip the heavy cream together with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form, ensuring a light and fluffy topping.
  4. Assemble and serve. Remove the pie from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes to soften slightly for easier slicing. Drizzle hot fudge sauce over the top, sprinkle with chopped macadamia nuts, and add a generous dollop of the freshly whipped cream. Slice into portions and serve immediately, with extra fudge sauce on the side if desired.

Notes

  • For easier slicing, dip your knife in hot water between cuts to prevent sticking.
  • You can substitute macadamia nut ice cream with vanilla or coconut-based ice cream and add chopped macadamia nuts inside for similar flavor.
  • This dessert is ideal as a make-ahead treat, perfect for summer gatherings or special occasions.
