Ingredients
Scale
Meat & Aromatics
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Spices
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Other Ingredients
- 4 pita pockets
- 1 cup lettuce, shredded
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1/2 cucumber, diced
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup tzatziki sauce
Instructions
- Heat oil: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering to prepare for sautéing.
- Sauté aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Cook beef and season: Add the ground beef along with ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until the beef is browned and cooked through, approximately 6-7 minutes.
- Warm pita: While the beef cooks, warm the pita pockets either in the oven preheated to 350°F for 5 minutes or microwave for about 30 seconds to make them soft and pliable.
- Assemble pockets: Open each warmed pita pocket and fill generously with the cooked beef mixture, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, diced cucumber, and crumbled feta cheese.
- Serve with sauce: Drizzle each stuffed pita pocket with tzatziki sauce before serving for a creamy and tangy finish.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a squeeze of lemon juice or a sprinkle of fresh parsley to the beef mixture.
- To make it lighter, use lean ground beef or substitute ground turkey.
- Vegetarian option: replace beef with sautéed mushrooms or lentils.
- Serve with a side of Greek salad or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
