Description

These Mediterranean Ground Beef Pita Pockets are a quick and flavorful meal combining seasoned ground beef with fresh vegetables, tangy feta cheese, and creamy tzatziki sauce, all stuffed into warm pita bread for a delicious handheld dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat & Aromatics

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Spices

  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Other Ingredients

  • 4 pita pockets
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cucumber, diced
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup tzatziki sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat oil: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering to prepare for sautéing.
  2. Sauté aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Cook beef and season: Add the ground beef along with ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until the beef is browned and cooked through, approximately 6-7 minutes.
  4. Warm pita: While the beef cooks, warm the pita pockets either in the oven preheated to 350°F for 5 minutes or microwave for about 30 seconds to make them soft and pliable.
  5. Assemble pockets: Open each warmed pita pocket and fill generously with the cooked beef mixture, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, diced cucumber, and crumbled feta cheese.
  6. Serve with sauce: Drizzle each stuffed pita pocket with tzatziki sauce before serving for a creamy and tangy finish.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a squeeze of lemon juice or a sprinkle of fresh parsley to the beef mixture.
  • To make it lighter, use lean ground beef or substitute ground turkey.
  • Vegetarian option: replace beef with sautéed mushrooms or lentils.
  • Serve with a side of Greek salad or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
