Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 8 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1/2 cup mini pepperoni slices
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Flatten the bread: Using a rolling pin, gently flatten each slice of bread until it is thin and slightly stretched, which will make it easier to fold and seal.
- Add the sauce: Spread about 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce onto one half of each flattened bread slice, leaving a small border around the edges to allow sealing.
- Add cheese and pepperoni: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce and place a few mini pepperoni slices on top for flavor and texture.
- Form the pockets: Fold the bread over the filling to create a pocket. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal completely, preventing leaks during baking.
- Prepare for baking: Place the sealed pockets on the lined baking sheet. Brush the tops lightly with melted butter, and sprinkle with Italian seasoning and garlic powder to add flavor and a golden finish.
- Bake: Bake the pockets in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the pockets are golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and serve: Allow the pockets to cool for a few minutes before serving to let the filling set and to avoid burns.
Notes
- Make sure the edges are sealed tightly to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
- Customize the filling by adding cooked sausage, diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or olives.
- For extra crispiness, flip the pockets halfway through baking.
- These pockets can also be cooked in an air fryer at 370°F for 8 to 10 minutes.
