Ingredients
Scale
For the Salisbury Steaks
- 1 pound Lean Ground Beef (Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter meal.)
- 1/2 cup Bread Crumbs (Crushed crackers or oats work well as gluten-free options.)
- 1/4 cup Ketchup (BBQ sauce can be swapped for a unique flair.)
- 1 tablespoon Mustard (Dijon mustard can be used for a sharper taste.)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce (Soy sauce can serve as an alternative.)
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (Fresh garlic can be used for a more vibrant taste.)
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder (Fresh onions can enhance the flavor.)
- 1 teaspoon Salt (Adjust to taste.)
- 1 teaspoon Pepper (Adjust to taste.)
For the Gravy
- 1 packet Brown Gravy Mix (Homemade gravy is a great alternative.)
- 2 cups Hot Water
- Extra Ketchup and Worcestershire Sauce to taste (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil (for cooking)
- Fresh Parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, thoroughly combine the lean ground beef, bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until evenly mixed.
- Heat Skillet: Place a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Heat until the oil is shimmering and hot enough for cooking.
- Form Patties and Cook: Shape the meat mixture into evenly sized patties. Carefully place them into the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown crust.
- Prepare Gravy: Lower the heat to low. In a separate bowl or cup, whisk the brown gravy mix with 2 cups of hot water, adding extra ketchup and Worcestershire sauce if desired for enhanced flavor.
- Simmer Patties in Gravy: Pour the prepared gravy over the cooked patties in the skillet. Let it simmer gently over low heat until the gravy thickens and the patties are heated through, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Serve: Optionally sprinkle fresh parsley over the Salisbury steaks before serving for a pop of color and freshness. Serve hot with your favorite sides.
Notes
- Ground turkey can be used instead of beef for a lighter version.
- For gluten-free options, substitute bread crumbs with crushed crackers or oats.
- Fresh garlic and onion can replace powders for a more vibrant taste.
- Try adding BBQ sauce instead of ketchup for a smoky twist.
- Homemade gravy can be used instead of packet mix for better flavor control.
