Description

This Seafood Lasagna featuring shrimp and crab is a decadent twist on the classic Italian dish. Layers of tender lasagna noodles, rich ricotta and mozzarella cheese blends, succulent sautéed seafood, and creamy Alfredo sauce come together to create a flavorful and elegant meal perfect for special occasions or a gourmet dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood

  • 1 kilogram shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 450 grams crab meat
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 30 milliliters olive oil
  • 15 milliliters fresh parsley, chopped
  • 5 milliliters salt
  • 5 milliliters black pepper
  • 2.5 milliliters red pepper flakes

Pasta and Cheese

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 480 milliliters ricotta cheese
  • 200 grams shredded mozzarella cheese (divided: 100 grams for cheese mixture, remainder for topping)
  • 80 grams grated Parmesan cheese (divided: 40 grams for cheese mixture, remainder for topping)

Sauces

  • 950 milliliters Alfredo sauce
  • 240 milliliters heavy cream

Topping

  • 60 grams breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Prepare Noodles and Oven: Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set them aside to cool slightly.
  2. Sauté Seafood: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink and opaque, about 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in the crab meat, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, cooking for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the skillet from heat.
  3. Blend Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 100 grams of shredded mozzarella, 40 grams of grated Parmesan, heavy cream, and chopped parsley. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble Layers: Spread a thin layer of Alfredo sauce on the bottom of a 33×23 centimeter (13×9 inch) baking dish. Lay down a layer of noodles, followed by one-third of the cheese mixture and one-third of the seafood mixture. Drizzle some Alfredo sauce on top. Repeat this layering process two more times, finishing with a final noodle layer topped with Alfredo sauce.
  5. Add Topping and Bake Covered: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top. Evenly distribute the breadcrumbs. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  6. Finish Baking Uncovered: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling hot.
  7. Rest and Serve: Let the lasagna rest for about 10 minutes before slicing to allow it to set. Garnish with extra chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overcook the shrimp in the pan as they will continue to cook in the oven.
  • Use fresh seafood if possible for the best flavors.
  • You can substitute Alfredo sauce with béchamel sauce if preferred.
  • Resting the lasagna before serving helps retain its structure for clean slices.
  • Breadcrumbs on top add a lovely crunch but can be omitted for gluten-free options.
