Description

Cupid Crunch Popcorn is a delightful sweet treat perfect for celebrating special moments with a crunchy caramel coating and festive candy hearts. This easy recipe combines air-popped popcorn with a rich homemade caramel sauce, topped with colorful candy hearts for a fun and delicious snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Popcorn

  • 1 cup popcorn kernels

Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 cup candy hearts

Instructions

  1. Pop the Popcorn: Pop the popcorn kernels using an air popper or stovetop method until fully popped and set aside in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Make the Caramel: In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, unsalted butter, corn syrup, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until the mixture comes to a boil and the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Add Vanilla: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract for added flavor.
  4. Coat the Popcorn: Pour the hot caramel sauce evenly over the popped popcorn and gently mix to fully coat all the kernels.
  5. Add Candy Hearts: Sprinkle the candy hearts over the caramel-coated popcorn and gently fold them in to distribute throughout without melting the candy.
  6. Cool: Spread the popcorn mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper in an even layer.
  7. Set and Serve: Let the popcorn cool completely until the caramel sets and becomes crisp before breaking into pieces and serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh popcorn kernels for best popping results and minimal unpopped kernels.
  • Be careful when handling hot caramel; it can cause burns.
  • To ensure candy hearts hold their shape, add them after removing the caramel from heat and mix gently.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep the popcorn crunchy.
  • If you prefer less sweetness, reduce the sugar slightly or substitute corn syrup for honey.
