Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup milk, warm
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Filling
- 1 cup strawberries, chopped
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
Icing
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 teaspoons milk (for icing consistency)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the rolls.
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk with active dry yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy to activate the yeast.
- Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, sugar, softened butter, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the yeast mixture and combine to form a dough.
- Knead Dough: Knead the dough by hand or using a stand mixer for 5-7 minutes until it turns smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Roll Out Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll the risen dough into a rectangle shape to prepare for filling.
- Add Cream Cheese: Spread the softened cream cheese evenly over the rolled-out dough.
- Distribute Strawberries: Sprinkle the chopped strawberries evenly on top of the cream cheese layer.
- Form Rolls: Carefully roll the dough tightly from one end to form a log. Slice into 12 even rolls.
- Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving some space between each. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Prepare and Add Icing: Mix powdered sugar with a small amount of milk to create a smooth icing. Drizzle over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
Notes
- Ensure milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
- You can substitute fresh strawberries with frozen ones, just thaw and drain excess moisture before use.
- For a dairy-free version, use plant-based cream cheese and milk alternatives.
- Brush the tops of rolls with melted butter after baking for extra richness.
- Store leftover rolls in an airtight container and reheat gently before serving.
